Since Gore Vidal is gone, gone, gone this is one of the last interviews that will be dug from the archives. Maybe. Sometimes it seems dead writers, like singers, archives go on forever.
Vidal is a bit old and cranky in this interview but still angry, gossipy, insightful, sharp and often sad as he looks back at 20th Century America.
And at two bucks why not buy it? It is cheaper than a beer and the conversation is better than the bar. Though methinks Vidal would prefer a strong scotch or expensive wine over a beer.
Written by a true American original this is full of of a contrarians insight to why we are living under a security state today that has been decades in the making. Should be a must read to any American concerned with the future of our republic.

Truth never sins, it's just downright inconvenient...
A rant from the elderly Gore Vidal is better than no rant at all--but his message is much better delivered in titles he wrote previously.
The editing of the interviews exposes too much repetition and the lines of questions not rigorous enough. Gore Vidal's statements provide easily digestible points of view for those younger folk, who wish to understand alternative visions of history and what is and has been going on from a humanist point of view.
I had read two of Vidal's books, and enjoyed them. But this a disorganized mess. I suppose it would be an interesting conversation to overhear while drinking grapples, but as a book?
Not so much.
