This has a delightful story line. It had many twists and turns.I have two thoughts for the author. First in the beginning you mentioned you wouldn't do much explaining of things. But the extensive use of parenthesis seems to me to over explain things. Second, you need some people to read your material before hand to help with transitions. Several times there was a jump that was difficult to follow.
As with all fantasy reality was suspended on a large scale. That is one of the best qualities of the book.
The subtitle of the book (Histories of Earth) seem to suggest sequels but the end of the book didn't seem to suggest that.
If the author would like an objective beta tester, I would love to do this.

I pride myself on being able to finish reading a book no matter how I feel about it (except Anna Karenina). However, this time was different. I couldn't be bothered to read it to the end. The basic story line is interesting but the constant asides were very very distracting and frustrating. I saw no need to explain why she had written one thing over another, or why she wouldn't "belabor you with details", or notes stating that you (the reader) can feel at liberty to skip through parts of the story that we don't care for.
The plot is creative and fresh; there aren't many like it, but it was hard to appreciate the creativity through all those distractions.
I was gripped in the beginning, but then it lost me. It was like Narnia, but not as well written. it was like the author read a class children's book - Alice in Wonderland, perhaps - and decided he could do just as well. Not.
The perfect book if you want a light, sweet and heartwarming adventure. I was quite pleased with this great story
When I first read the title I thought it would be more for the young people, but once you get into the story you cant put it down,
It was fun to read.
Del has a legitimate chip on her shoulder. And is not dealing well with her emotions but when there is a talking animal in her kitchen priorities shift.. off on adventures, off the planet, with little time to grieve or miss her da. When weird becomes normal you adjust. Fun book, nice break from the darkness I've been reading. I like this book, it's sweet, with lots of action, a fast easy read.
Carroll included the reader into the book by talking directly to them. It was a daring method of writing that took a while to get use to, but was enjoyable in the end. The character development of his two main characters was great and the story of an unlikely hero becoming one through default is always a fun read. I look forward to watching Carroll's talent develop.
